Flamingos
Under European directives it has been agreed that the larger the group of flamingos the higher potentialto breed, with the minimum being 40 birds. We have three species of flamingo at Birdland and the largest number is with the Greater flamingos. We need another 20 birds te reach the minimum requirements. This year we received 4 eggs from Slimbridge and hatched 4 birds. Unfortunately we lost one bird to infection, but the other three are thriving and will bost our numbers.
Our group has started building nest mounds, so we may still have an egg this year and rear our own birds.
We will continue to add birds to this group and then raise the numbers of the other two species.
